• Q: Can I visit your club first before deciding to join?

  • Yes, we always welcome guests to our club. Many of our members visited the club at least twice before becoming members.

• Q: Am I obligated to speak at meetings?

  • We do not pressure guests to speak, however we encourage them to do it. The club's atmosphere is friendly and we try to make everyone comfortable so all can benefit from participating.

• Q: Can I join the club, even though I am not a current UofA student?

  • We welcome anyone 18 years or older, regardless of being a student or not! If you think you would be interested, come on a trial basis. You may attend as a guest as many times as you wish.

• Q: Do I need to do anything before I visit your club? 

  • Guests are not required to do anything before visiting our club; however, browsing toastmasters.org and our website might be of benefit. 

• Q: Is it free to join the club?

  • Guests can always join every meeting for free! However, to get access to the Toastmasters Pathways Program, you must become a member.

• Q: What is the Toastmasters Pathways Program?

  • The Pathways learning experience is an interactive and flexible education program like no other. It was created to help you strengthen your communication and leadership skills as you grow toward personal and professional success—all while having fun with others in the process! Take this journey and partake in:

    • The opportunity to build more than 300 unique skillset competencies

    • 11 specialized learning paths

    • Online content, affording you to learn anytime, anywhere

    • Real-world, transferable skills

    • Content is available in Arabic, English, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese, with select paths available in Korean and Tamil.

• Q: What is the difference between a guest and a member?

  • Guests:

    • Free

    • Can attend all meetings and take on all specialty roles

    • Limited to giving a single icebreaker speech (4-6 minute speech introducing themselves - come to our meetings for more information)

    • Cannot participate in regional speech contests

  • Members:

    • Paid

    • Can attend all meetings and take on all specialty roles

    • Can give unlimited speeches

    • Gains access to the Toastmasters Pathways Program

    • Can participate in regional speech contests
